What You Need to Travel

We really appreciate our loved ones' willingness to consider traveling to San Miguel de Allende to celebrate with us. Below, we've outlined some information about traveling to San Miguel, based on our previous experiences. Of course, your own situation may be different, so we encourage you to do your own research as well. Please do not hesitate to contract Audrey or Britt with any questions or concerns you have - we would be happy to help.

Passports and Visas

To enter Mexico, you will need a passport that is valid/unexpired as of your entry. U.S. passport holders do not need a visa to visit for tourist purposes.

Currency and Payments

Mexico's currency is the Mexican peso. U.S. dollars are generally not accepted in San Miguel de Allende. Most establishments (especially those frequented by tourists) accept credit cards. Check with your bank about using your card in Mexico; some banks charge foreign transaction fees. When paying with a card, we choose to pay in pesos rather than in dollars; the exchange rate offered by your bank is generally more favorable than that used by the card processor.

Some places (especially street vendors) only accept cash, and other establishments charge a card fee/offer a cash discount. We do not recommend carrying large amounts of cash around. When we visit San Miguel, we typically withdraw small amounts from ATMs frequently. There are multiple 24/7 ATMs in or near the Jardín Allende, the main plaza, which is only a few minutes' walk from the hotel.

What to Pack

Typical February weather in San Miguel is highs in the mid-70s and lows in the high-40s, with rare precipitation - definitely pack a jacket or warm layer for evenings. Despite the mild temperatures, the UV index can be high, so consider bringing sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.

The main tourist area of San Miguel is not very large, but almost all streets are cobblestone and the city is set on a hill, so comfortable shoes are recommended. On our first visit, Audrey bought "emergency Birkenstocks" after a long day of walking.

Mexico uses the same electrical outlet as the U.S., so converters/adapters are not necessary for U.S. devices.

Please text Audrey or Britt with any additional questions!

FAQs

Where would you recommend staying?

Please do not book a hotel room!! We have you covered. Accommodation will be provided for the nights of February 18th through 20th, 2027, at Casa de Sierra Nevada (the venue).

What if I want to stay for longer?

Great idea! Special rates at Casa de Sierra Nevada are available for the two nights prior to the group booking - please contact Audrey or Britt for more details. San Miguel also has many other beautiful hotels for a range of tastes and budgets.

Should I rent a car? How should i get around?

We do not recommend renting a car. Within San Miguel de Allende, walking is the best method of transportation. Most attractions are within a 20 minute walk. The city has beautiful cobblestone streets and is set on a hill, so please pack comfortable shoes. Cabs and Ubers are also available.

Transportation between the hotel and Querétaro Intercontinental Airport will be provided on February 18th and 21st. If you are arriving or departing on a different date, we encourage you to organize airport transportation ahead of time; Bajiogo and Transportarte are two local transportation services. Please contact Audrey or Britt if you need assistance or advice regarding transportation.

Where will the wedding take place?

All events (welcome party and wedding celebration) will take place at the hotel, Casa de Sierra Nevada. Casa de Sierra Nevada is composed of rooms spread across multiple historic houses. Some guests will stay at Casa Parque, where events will be held, and some will stay a short walk away in one of the other historic casas.

What should I wear?

The dress code for our wedding is cocktail attire (think suits, elegant mid-length dresses, or dressy jumpsuits). For the welcome party, we request dressy casual attire (chinos and button-downs or knits, sundresses, jumpsuits, blouses, etc.). Events will be largely outdoors and partially on grass.

What weather can I expect?

San Miguel de Allende has a beautiful, temperate climate. Typical February weather is highs in the mid-70s and lows in the high-40s, with rare precipitation. Days are typically warm and sunny, and nights are cool (pack a jacket!).

What amenities are available at the hotel?

Your room includes free daily breakfast, morning coffee service, daily turndown service, in-room coffee and tea, and WiFi. The hotel also has a pool, a small gym, and a spa. As part of the group booking, guests receive 10% off spa bookings.

Why are you getting married in San Miguel de Allende?
